The Campaign

As promised the campaign will launch from here on Friday 4th September. It will consist of a daily post from all the lovely ladies who have come running over to help out. Each day a new lady will take the baton (so to speak) and post something over on their blog about, well basically how crap this all is, how they would feel in the circumstances and really just anything to raise a little bit of awareness.

Whereby the initial campaign is to raise awareness of my own situation it is also about reaching out to other women, all over the world, that are in the same situation, stuck, held hostage, away from home, denied their rights to free movement, the right to a free life and to make their own choices in life. All because they have had a child with someone either not the same nationality as them, or have gone to live in another country. They are being denied basic human rights that everyone else in this world is entitled to. It would appear women with children do not have human rights anymore.

There are many legal aspects to these situations, but the main point of focus will be for women, like myself, who travelled to another country as a dutiful wife. When the relationship has ended they have faced nothing but struggle and had to do it all alone with no help or support. They long to return to their homeland so they can have the support of their own families and be able to provide a better life for their children.

One point I will make is that, I for one can honestly say that my longing to return to my homeland is by no means an attempt to separate my child from her father. This is something I have worked and planned for and would never happen. I have offered every provision possible to ensure that the relationship between my daughter and her father is maintained and continues to be consistent. My family are willing to support her father to enable him to travel regularly to visit her.

Some women go through all of this and wish to move thousands of miles away. I am different. I am in Ireland and wish to move to England. The distance is just 135 miles, door to door.

I have been through the local court and without going into the ins and outs of the hearing, I did not receive a fair hearing at all. The case was not considered properly and was given the very minimum of court time, even though it took a year to bring it to a full hearing. A full hearing was not what I received. The matter will now go before the High Courts. At no point during any of the assessments my child and I had to undergo did anyone say that she would be better off living with her father, even though he has attempted to get custody many times. All involved agreed that she had to remain with me and that if she did move she would adjust and cope and would after a settling in period be absolutely fine. I have tried in vain many, many times to reason with her father. He won't agree to anything other than me giving up my child to him so that I can move away.

In the meantime, while I wait for the High Courts I would like to spread the word far and wide about the injustice both myself and other mothers are receiving at the hands of the courts and the denial of rights we have to endure. Whereby I understand that her father also has rights, his rights have never been violated and never will be. Any issues he may have regarding our daughters welfare and his access have all been addressed. He will always be a part of her life and his access would actually be better and for longer if we moved.

By raising awareness I am also hoping to petition the British Government to take notice. Legally they can not get involved however I feel that if they expressed an interest in the case then I would have a far greater chance of receiving a fair hearing next time around and that all the correct procedures would be followed.

I will post the list of all the ladies that will be blogging and there will be a link here everyday to the blog of the day. I also ask that anyone that reads this spreads the word and signs the petition (when it goes live) and re-tweets these posts as much as possible.

I was told that if I wanted to go home then I had to give up custody of my child. A child the courts have refused to give custody of to her father. I am being held hostage and my child used as ransom.

How is this consistent with the modern world we are supposed to live in whereby as an EU citizen we are entitled to free movement across the EU? Have the right to the life we chose for ourselves? And the right to a fair hearing?

It isn't fair, it isn't right and no mother should ever be placed in the position I have been. Together we can stop this and stop it happening to anymore mothers who just want to provide a better life for their child.
